(More customer reviews)I started taking these for pain in the center thumb joint.It had been continuning for about 2 weeks.Since I had taken Glucosamine and Chondroitin for severe and persistant hip pain about 10 years ago with very good results, I decided that would be the way to go.

I have been taking these pills a little over 2 weeks now and am already seeing some relief in pain.I like the fact that they only require 2 pills a day.I wish that they were gel caps, because these "Easy To Swallow Coated Caplets", are not that easy to swallow. Since they are working so well however, I will continue to take them.

Update: I have been using these pills for almost 2 months and they are really doing their job. I no longer have the pain in my thumb and the minor pain in other joints seems to have gone away.

Texture-wise, I prefer ON's Colossus Cookie (they are chewier and moister), but the ingredients list on Jay's is far better and less scary.He is using a "real" cookie recipe with a bunch of protein powder added in.They taste good enough that I wonder if the stats are too good to be true.... but from what I've heard he has a good reputation amongst the bodybuilding crowd.

(More customer reviews)This is a generic enteric-coated aspirin, meaning the manufacturer placed a coating on the tablet that prevents it from being digested in the stomach. The reason for this coating is that aspirin causes mild stomach bleeding in the stomach each time it is ingested. Once the tablet gets into the small intestine, it is digested and the aspirin is taken into the bloodstream.

Aspirin is a wonder-drug, the very first analgesic/anti-inflammatory medication to hit the market over 100 years ago. It is for mild to moderate pain and treats many different conditions such as arthritis, bone inflammation, joint pain, and even reduces fever. Aspirin causes blood platelets to not adhere to each other, thus it "thins" the blood and prevents blood clots from forming. Aspirin is thus used in emergency treatment of heart attacks and strokes. Some folks take a "baby" aspirin (81-160 mgs) each day to prevent blood clots from forming.

Aspirin is actually acetyl-salicylic acid. Manufacturers alter the structure of aspirin slightly to grant it different properties in terms of its digestion, to make digestion easier. Some buffer it with antacids while others coat the tablet with a coating that prevents its digestion in the stomach (like Ecotrin). Regular aspirin, without any buffering or coatings is tolerated by most people, but some cannot take it without severe stomach upset. For these folks, the buffered form is a god-send.

Unfortunately, Aspirin fell out of favor in the 60's and 70's when Reye's Syndrome developed in some children (under the age of 16) who took aspirin while they had the flu and/or chickenpox. About 30% of the children affected died and many more had permanent brain damage. Because of Reye's Syndrome, alternate analgesics were placed on the market, the premier being Tylenol. There is no reason to fear using aspirin if you are an adult, as Reye's Syndrome only occurred in children under 16 years of age.

The usual dose of aspirin is 325 mg, with the "extra-strength form at 500 mg. Most adults will easily tolerate a dose of 650 mg (2 tablets) every 4 hours with a maximum daily dose of 5,200 mg. (Some with rheumatoid arthritis take up to 7200 mg/day with a doctor's supervision). There is no additional benefit to taking more than 1,000 mg every 4 hours. Increasing the dose beyond this point will only increase the toxicity of aspirin.

Aspirin should be avoided in people taking blood-thinning medications, those with stomach ulcers, and used with caution in insulin-dependent diabetics. Allergies can develop to aspirin as well. Never mix aspirin with any of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, such as Ibuprofen, as there is no pain benefit and the gastric upset chance is greatly increased. Don't mix aspirin with alcohol either, as it is hard on the stomach.

Used properly, aspirin is a terrific medication. I prefer to buy my aspirin in a generic form. One pays more for aspirin if it is produced by a name-brand manufacturer. However, the big-manufacturers also package aspirin in some of the buffered forms that some people tolerate better.

(More customer reviews)I found these while looking for a non-fish omega-3 DHA supplement. I believe this is the same DHA you'll find in any Martek or Life's DHA product, and that they all are from the same company.

The benefits of supplementing a diet with fish oil come from the omega-3 fatty acid, DHA. Traditional fish oil capsules contain less than 100 mg of DHA per 1 gram of oil. This product contains 200 mg of DHA per capsule from a vegetarian plant-based source, algae.

I take 2 capsules in the morning. They're small and round, so they go down without a problem. If not eaten with food, a hint of seaweed can be tasted after several minutes.

These are better than fish capsules if you're a vegetarian, but (as with almost all softgels) the capsules are made from gelatin (a non-veg ingredient).

I recommend these, they're a little pricey, but a bottle will last 2 months when taking 2 capsules per day.

(More customer reviews)This is probably the most over-rated multivitamin right now; the sad thing is, most people who buy this tend to think that they are buying something way better than Centrum or One-A-Day (as if that really says anything).

These vitamins are in caplet forms (which is basically just a coated tablet) and they are huge.If you're not good at swallowing pills then this multi should be avoided.

Now, let's talk about the quality of this product, after all, most of us take vitamins to improve our health so let's see if this multivitamin has what one would really need:

The good thing is that 50% of the vitamin A is in the form of beta-carotene.And unfortunately that's about where the good stops and where the rest of the cheapness of this vitamin begins:

It lists the calcium as a mixture of calcium carbonate and calcium citrate.Calcium carbonate is a very cheap form of calcium and has a very low absorption rate in the body.Most cheap vitamins (such as Centrum and One-A-Day) uses calcium carbonate because it's cheap and the general public doesn't know any better.Calcium citrate on the other hand, is a very expensive but possibly the best form of calcium available.GNC's Mega Men does a tactic to fool people into thinking they are getting quality calcium: they mix both the carbonate and citrate forms of calcium together, without even stating what percentage of the calcium is in the carbonate form and what percentage is in the citrate form.For all we know, this could be 99% calcium carbonate and only 1% calcium citrate.

Another cheap ingredient is magensium in the form of magensium oxide.Again, magnesium citrate is the superior form of magnesium.This time GNC doesn't even try to disguise their cheap magnesium, it is just straight up cheap magnesium oxide.Zinc is also in a cheap oxide form.

Vitamin B12 is in the cheap cyanocobalmin form, which methylcobalamin is the active form of B-12, another strike against this cheap multi in disguise of a quality product.

This vitamin does give 200mcg of selenium which is the desired amount to get the most health benefits according to the latest research... too bad it's not in the L-Selenomethionine form which is the active form of selenium.

The list goes on on why this is actually not that great of a vitamin, but the topper, to top everything off, it contains titanium dioxide which is a possible carcinogen.

Bottom line: look for another multi.This is really not much better than Centrum of One-A-Day, but it sure is a HECK of a lot more expensive!

Tips to look for in a multiviatmin:

-Vitamin A as 100% betacarotene (the safest form of vitamin A, unless you smoke, in which case beta-carotene can increase your chances of lung cancer)

-minerals in either citrate or amino acid chelate forms, but NOT carbonates or oxides, i.e. calcium citrate & magnesium citrate (not mixtures such as what this multi does)

-methylcobalmin for vitamin B-12

-200mcg of selenium in the L-selenomethionine form

-capsule, softgel or liquid is the perferred form since caplets/tablets have a harder time dissolving and some brands have been found to not dissolve at all... for the record, GNC Mega Men's does not have this problem.

-Avoid vitamins that have artificial fillers or objectionable ingredients, such as titanium dioxide.

Almost no multivitamin is going to be completely perfect so some additional supplementing is almost always going to be needed.But this multivitamin just has too many flaws to over-come.

My personal encounter with this took place 4 months ago after my lower back surgery. I had pain running through me like a bolt a lightening. I took vicodine hydro cone, percocet and steroids to shrink the internal swelling, but they only block the pain for a while and it would come back sharper than before. I was introduced to this by an older woman in her 60's that couldn't stop praising it. I thought it was for old people and I did not consider it, because I'm only 27 yrs old, and I am a man. I started out on 6 per day, because of the pain and I was told it's not a drug and you can't overdose on it, and 6 is the max recommended amount for anyone who is on it (per day). I'll never get off it, because it keeps INFLAMMATION AWAY! And it's all about keeping inflammation away. WHEW ! On opening the bottle the rank fishy odor was overwhelming.The inner cellophane cover on the bottle had a dusty red residue on it. The capsules were oily with a greyish film on them. Just taking one out to look at it more closely, has left a stomach churning smell on my hand.
No one could be expected to take this supplement.Or is it something with this particular batch?Iwould certainly be interested in other reviews on this product.

I also chose Neuromins because it's derived from algal oil rather than fish oils. They seem expensive, but aren't when compared to similar products (OptiNate, Promise, etc). I have not tried other products, but I'm only giving this product 3 stars because the round capsule does not go down smoothly and I have algae burps if I take the pill during the day and some queasiness if I take it at night.

(More customer reviews)I take glucosamine diligently. You can see from this review page that I have purchased THIS product through amazon. However, I cannot endorse glucosamine as 'effective' on the basis of any personal experience or any scientific knowledge. I take it because people whose knowledge I respect have told me that it MAY be useful in preventing deterioration of joints. I am a musician; it's my finger joints that I would be willing to protect at any cost. My advisors have recommended double the dosage considered 'standard" - 3000mg per day, and that's what I take.

But glucosamine is expensive at that dosage. I don't believe the cost of manufacture justifies the prices that are charged. I suspect that the profits are excessive. And I'm outraged at the deceptive and exploitative labeling of glucosamine products by virtually every manufacturer. This, along with all other vitamins and nutritional supplements, should be strictly regulated and standardized by the FDA or some other federal watchdog consumer protection agency. Big government is the ordinary citizen's only friend in relation to private industrial giants like the drug and supplement companies.

Kirkland Glucosamine "Extra Strength" is one of the most economical sources I've been able to find. I would have no complaint against the company if it were not for the blatantly misleading labeling and incomplete product info here on amazon. The label boldly trumpets "1500mg". Nowhere on the label, front or back, large print or small, does it acknowledge that each tablet actually contains 750mg of glucosamine. Reading the tight print of the "Supplement Facts", one will find that a "Serving Size" is 2 tablets, and that such a serving size delivers the 1500mg. Thus, there are not 375 servings in the package, but only 187.5. The product may be twice as expensive as the incautious buyer is led to presume.

Yes, yes, I understand the notion of Caveat Emptor -- Buyer Beware! I'm hoping here to be 'helpful' to those hurried or handicapped buyers who tend to believe in the forthright honesty of big business.

It makes absolutely no sense for the manufacturer to add this non-nutritive, potentially dangerous substance to a product for pregnant women. Not only does adding carmine (beetle) extract render the product non-kosher and non-vegetarian , it causes severe allergic reactions in some people. (Please visit the FDA website for more information.) The 'yuck' factor alone is enough to turn those seeking a DHA supplement away in disgust.

Mashed beetles with that DHA for you, mom-to-be? No thank you!

I googled my symptoms and came up with mercury poisoning. It went away after not taking this product for 3 days. The amount of "elemental" calcium in calcium carbonate is typically 40%.The label on this product says there is 600mg of calcium carbonate in each tablet.The label doesn't state it as "elemental" calcium.But a call to Spring Valley customer service says the 600mg is the "elemental" level.

I'm skeptical.Why doesn't the label state it as elemental, since that's the important number when calculating daily calcium needs. To get 600mg of elemental calcium, each tablet would have to have 1500mg of calcium carbonate.And maybe that's the case.Just wondering why a company marketing a product to people counting daily "elemental" calcium levels wouldn't use that critical word on the label...

Even on an empty stomach, they cause me no digestive upset at all and I love the flavor. The orange is my favorite and doesn't taste at all like fish, but has an orange-y creamsicle flavor. Original review: I bought these on a whim and they're fantastic! For the price you really can't go wrong to just give it a try and see how it suits you. I'm in my late 20's with fair freckled skin.

Here's what's in the capsule as listed on the bottle: Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Sunflower Oil, Glyceryl, Fragrance.

People seem to get different benefits from Vitamin E oil which is a powerful antioxidant - such as reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks, helping the healing process of acne, making your eyelashes stronger and giving your skin a better tone overall. For me it was super moisturizing. I recommend you use it after a hot shower or after steaming your face because it helps it to sink in faster. If you use it on just regular skin it just sits on top for a very long time. These capsules are not sticky, just slick. You can let it sit after your shower/bath for an hour or two and then pat off the excess if you don't want a shiny face.

Add a few drops to your moisturizer or just cut the tip and squeeze the capsule into your palm and apply. Its pretty much the perfect amount to cover your face and neck.

Because of the extra additions on sunflower oil and fragrance, next time I'll probably just get straight Vitamin E(which can usually be found in any drugstore, grocery store or here on Amazon), but this has introduced me to something new that's not only supremely moisturizing, but cheap and green!

However, with the stated quantities of vitamin A and D in a capsule, this product couldn't possibly be straight, unadulterated cod liver oil. It must be fortified or concentrated to contain 1250 IU of vitamin A and 135 IU of vitamin D in a minuscule softgel. The correct label would probably be something like "Vitamin A and D Supplement Based on Cod Liver Oil", so don't buy this product if you want cod liver oil for a balanced supplement of omega-3 and vitamins.

These gummies do NOT cause that reaction with me!

I have no problem taking them and will continue to do so faithfully. If it weren't for the taste, I would rate them a 5. Yes, they are sweet enough to mask some of the taste, but still...it takes some getting used to, to get past it altogether.

Considering the task Vitafusion had of making an edible gummy that contains concentrated fish oil without creating burps, they did very very well and I am happy enough with the results. I am on my second bottle.

But don't forget I warned you, the taste does take some getting used to. ;)

Fortunately in my case I received a prompt refund, but I'd recommend you avoid the hassle and buy it at your local store and treat it like any grocery item which needs to be kept refrigerated.You wouldn't order a carton of milk through Amazon and use it after it arrived via standard UPS shipping - the same applies here.If you are wondering whether a particular item needs to be kept refrigerated or not, check the manufacturer web site before ordering through Amazon - I'm going to be doing that from now on for all items like this one...

(More customer reviews)Omega-3 Mood presents 1,000 mg of EPA from fish oil, unfortunately the gelcaps that surround this oil are too large to actually swallow. If they were half the size (even if that required twice as many), everyone could use this product, not just people with large necks.

Best advice is to buy only one, and if you find that they are too large for you, contact the manufacturer via the website on the label. If enough people ask, they may come out with a smaller gelcap that everyone can successfully swallow.

I've tried breaking open the capsules and drinking the oil inside, but this may not be convenient as the oil tends to coat one's mouth, it smells like fish, and the manufacturer cautions that the oil may burn -- though I believe the oil is no more acidic than salad dressing.

Update: I've successfully swallowed these now, with water. The trick, told to me by a doctor friend, is that you should not tilt your head up as you'd expect. Rather, you should, if anything, tilt your head slightly down as you gulp. This works, though I'd still appreciate smaller gelcaps.

You take 1 Tablespoon per 50 lbs of body weight, which is a very potent amount. I am getting my parents to take this as well. For high blood pressure it is recommended to seek a physician's opinion first.

I changed to Life Extension Two per day because it is regarded as a very high quality product and when I saw the nutrition facts it was evident it was a much better product.

I think Opti-Men is a very good formula and its performance/price ratio is good when compared to other available brands.

I need to suggest that you be careul about multivitamin formulas "for men". Do some research about the selenium and its impact on prostate cancer. There was a time when doctors believed high doses of it helped prevent and even combat the desease. HAppens that it is a proper balance of the element that provides the benefits, and high doses have been found to put you at higher risk.

I am not a doctor but I saw several papers about this. Do some research or simply ask your doctor.

Honestly, I am not a believer in dietary supplements, herbs, and most over the counter medications. I am a scientist and place my faith in doctors, prescription drugs, and western medicine. Oh, I do take a daily multivitamin, mostly on the basis that it can't hurt. But overall, to me, taking a supplement from a health food store is the equivalent of attempting to "construct a mnemonic memory circuit using stone knives and bear skins." (Mr. Spock to Edith Keeler in the Star Trek episode "City on the Edge of Forever.")

I have had chronic back pain due to a herniated disk and degenerative disk disease for about 15 years now. I also have had shoulder pain for about two years due to an injury. My pain is always there, most of the time ignorable, some of the time intolerable. During the intolerable times, I take narcotics: pain killers and muscle relaxers. Not a lot mind you, but the amount I need has slowly increased over the years. Physical therapy, exercise, stretching, a ridiculous number of hot baths, and deep tissue massage also help to alleviate the worst symptoms, but the pain always returns.

Until now.

A friend sent me two bottles - a two month supply - of ICELAND HEALTH JOINT RELIEF FORMULA with Omega-3 and Iceland Collagen GHA for my 5th wedding anniversary. I studied the label and did some research. The JOINT RELIEF FORMULA softgels contain Omega 3 fish oil concentrate, Omega 3 fatty acids, EPA, DHA, hydrolyzed collagen type 2, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and glucosamine sulfate. I have heard of most of these ingredients and know that they have been touted by various manufacturers as the solutions to all of our joint problems. I really did not believe these would have any affect on me, but decided to try them, again on the basis that my research showed that they couldn't hurt. I followed the directions and took two softgels every morning.

I was shocked. In two weeks I was literally pain free, for the first time in years. My back feels better than it has since 1995. The pain is non-existent, and what little there occasionally is resolves with a little stretching. My shoulder, while still clearly injured, has significantly less pain and a vastly increased range of motion. I no longer scream when I pick up the milk jug or my three year old daughter. Overall, I feel better and am in a much sunnier mood.

I don't know why ICELAND HEALTH JOINT RELIEF FORMULA works. The scientist in me says it shouldn't. But it does, and it has reduced my intake of prescription pain medication to almost nothing. I am going to buy more and keep taking it regularly. I do realize that I am not "cured," but I am infinitely more comfortable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ICELAND HEALTH JOINT RELIEF FORMULA for anyone with joint pain. It might just improve your quality of life. And that, my friends, is priceless.

(More customer reviews)I agree, I'm so angry that they would put artificial food coloring in these PRENATALS.We're not kids, and don't need attractive colors to help us take these vitamins.When I first started taking them, I thought the a company that calls themselves "Nature Made" just used beets for coloring, until about 2 weeks later I decided to read the back label more carefully and noticed they have Red 40, and blue and yellow.It's all over the web to try and avoid eating food with Red 40 during pregnancy.I will never trust this company again, especially since their name implies that they are "natural".

(More customer reviews)I've been very pleased with Barlean's Total Omega oils, but this Orange Swirl also tastes super yummy! Even my 1yo and 4yo will take it straight off the spoon -- and ask for it, even!Personally, I like to keep it in the freezer... reminds me of an orange push-up. :)

As for health benefits, although it's expensive, it's the most effective thing I've found to treat severe dry skin. Takes a few weeks of daily doses, but I've seen it heal skin from the inside out for 4 different family members... and that's after negligible results from topical products and a visit to the dermatologist. Love it!
